2026 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Hoover High School Visual Artists Recognized at 2026 National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
The National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recently announced the 2026 recipients for the Northeast Central Region. For the 25th consecutive year, Hoover High School artists were recognized with high honors. Their works, selected from nearly 4,000 submissions, will be on display at the Kent State Stark Campus Fine Arts and Student Center Building from January 20 through February 6, 2026. All students from Medina, Wayne, Stark, Portage, and Summit Counties who received a “Gold Key” designation will be honored at a ceremony on January 24th at the Kent State Stark Fine Arts Auditorium.
Senior Ella Kamyszek’s work was recognized as one of only 12 regional portfolios selected based on a cohesive body of six works. Her portfolio, along with Mia Sumser’s Gold Key submission, will move on to compete at the national level. National winners will be celebrated at Radio City Music Hall in New York City this summer.
The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have an impressive history dating back to 1923. Past winners include legendary figures such as Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, and Joyce Carol Oates. These awards offer students recognition in 28 different categories. Each year, teens in grades 7 through 12 can apply for scholarship opportunities and the chance to have their work exhibited or published.
We are so proud of our Hoover students for continuing this prestigious tradition. Congratulations to the following recipients:
Gold Key Portfolio: Ella Kamyszek
Gold Key Individual: Mia Sumser
Honorable Mention: Olivia Newman, Eva Skolnik, Mia Sumser
