Enrollment

WELCOME TO NORTH CANTON CITY SCHOOLS

Your VIKING adventure begins here!

Registration is open to qualifying students whose parent or guardian is a resident of the North Canton City School district. If you are unsure which school district you reside in, please use the Stark County Auditor’s Real Estate Search function to confirm your address. All registrations are completed online, however, if you need assistance or have questions, please reach out to the District Registrar at enrollment@northcantonschools.org or by phone at 330-497-5600 x1180.

Parents or guardians of students are not required to complete registration each year. Once your student is actively enrolled, their enrollment carries over year to year until the student graduates or leaves the district.

To register for the North Canton Primary Preschool program, please contact North Canton Primary Preschool directly at 330-497-5645 or visit the North Canton Primary Preschool Webpage. Prior approval for registration must be granted by the North Canton Primary Preschool and students must reside in the North Canton City School District. Once you have been contacted by NCPS that your student is approved for attendance, then you may proceed with online enrollment.

  • Enrollment at North Canton City Schools is open to qualifying students whose parent or legal guardian reside within the district.

  • All new enrollments to North Canton City Schools are completed via Powerschool Enrollment software, which can be accessed by clicking the grade level appropriate link below. You will be prompted to create an account, provide us with the pertient information about your student, and an opportunity to upload the necessary documentation for enrollment. If you already have a child enrolled at North Canton City Schools and need to enroll a new student, log in and use the “Add Student” function to add your new student to your family account. If you cannot remember your password, you can use the “Forgot Password?” link to create a new one. If you are unsure of the email address that is connected to your account, please reach out to the District Registrar at enrollment@northcantonschools.org for further assistance.

  • Per the North Canton City Schools Board of Education and the State of Ohio, we are required to collect the following documentation for each student prior to enrollment.

    • A copy of your child’s state issued birth certificate
    • A copy of a guardian’s photo ID or driver’s license
    • Two valid, current, forms of proof of residency
    • Current custody documentation, if applicable
    • A current immunization record, if applicable

If you have questions about which documents apply to your family, please contact the District Registrar at enrollment@northcantonschools.org.

  • We want to help make sure your document uploads go smoothly! Here’s how to prepare clear, useable files for enrollment.

Taking Photos of Documents (with phone or tablet)

    • Place the document on a flat, solid surface
    • Ensure the area is well-lit but avoid glare or shadows
    • Hold your device directly above the document
    • Capture the entire document on the frame
    • Check the image before uploading to ensure it is sharp, readable, and not blurry

Tip: If your phone has a “document scan” feature in the camera or Notes app, use it. It will automatically straighten and perfect your image. If you need assistance when scanning your documents, please select the how-to video that is compatible with your device:

How to scan documents using an iPhone

How to scan documents using an Android

The Powerschool registration module limits one document per upload. If your document has more than one page, you will need to use the scan function to link multiple pages into one uploadable document.

    Scanning Documents

    • Set your scanner to PDF or JPG format at 200-300 dpi for clear resolution
    • Use a free scanning app (Adobe Scan, Microsoft Lens, or Genius Scan) if you do not have a home scanner
    • Review each scan before saving to ensure the text is easy to read

    Downloading Electronic Copies

    • If your document is already available online (i.e. immunization records), download it as a PDF
    • Save it with a clear file name
    • Double-check that the file is complete before uploading

If you’re unsure or need help, contact the District Registrar at enrollment@northcantonschools.org.

  • Yes, you may bring your documents to the District Office to be copied by the District Registrar BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Please reach out to the District Registrar to make an appointment at enrollment@northcantonschools.org or 330-497-5600 x1180. Completion of the online registration form is still required. Enrollments are not completed in person at this time.

  •

I just moved to the district. When can I enroll?

Parents or guardians who have recently moved into the North Canton City School district can register with a valid purchase or rental agreement. The District Registrar will follow up 30 days following the closing date of a home purchase or the beginning date of a lease to collect additional proof of residency.

The address on my driver’s license does not match my current address. Is this an issue?

Per our policy, a valid photo ID or driver’s license is required to be collected for any newly enrolling student. The address does not need to be current but it cannot be expired.

What are considered valid forms of proof of residency?

Our policy defines valid forms of proof of residency as the following:

    • Utility bills, i.e. electric, gas, water, sewer, trash, cable, internet
    • A paycheck stub issued to the parent/guardian with the current address listed
    • A bank statement in the parent or legal guardian’s name with the current address listed
    • A parent or guardian’s driver’s license or photo ID that displays the current address
    • An official voter registration card
    • Rental agreements, all pages including signatures
    • Mortgage closing documents, all pages including signatures
    • Homeowners or renter’s insurance policy documents
    • The official Change of Address postcard issued by the United States Post Office. Printed email confirmations are not accepted.

Utility bills, bank statements, and paycheck stubs must display a date within the last 30 days to be accepted.

Because required documents are date specific, we cannot use proof of residency from an enrollment of a currently enrolled student unless that enrollment has been completed in the last 30 days.

I am residing with someone who lives on the North Canton City School district but do not have proof of residency in my name? Can I still register?

Yes. The student’s parent or guardian should complete an Affidavit of Residency with the person they are residing with. Once completed, signed, and notarized, this form can be returned with two forms of valid forms of proof of residency in the name of the person they are residing with. Affidavits of Residency are not required for parents or legal guardians of students who are residing with a person they are married to but are not a biological parent or legal guardian of their student.

What if I am in the process of building a home in the North Canton City School district?

To enroll your student you must provide a notarized sworn statement explaining the situation, revealing the location of the home being built, and stating the custodial parent’s intention to reside there upon completion AND a notarized statement from the builder confirming that a new home is being built for the custodial parent and that the new home is in the location indicated in the parent’s statement.

I live outside of the North Canton City School district. Can my child attend?

North Canton City Schools does not participate in open enrollment. Families must reside within district boundaries. Tuition options may be available, please contact the District Registrar at enrollment@northcantonschools.org or 330-497-5600 x1180 for more information.

  •

How old does my child need to be to enroll in Kindergarten?

For the 2026-27 school year, Ohio House Bill 114 requires all Kindergarten students to be five years old on or before North Canton City School’s first day of school on August 21st, 2026.

I am a biological parent and was never married to the other parent. What do I need to enroll my child?

Under Ohio law, if parents were not married at the time of a child’s birth, the mother is the sole residential and custodial parent unless the father has a court order establishing custody.

My former spouse and I have shared parenting and live in two districts. Can my child attend either district?

The child must attend school in the district of the residential parent for school placement puroposes as designated in your court-approved parenting plan.

A child (who is not my biological child) is living with me and their custodial parent lives elsewhere. Can I enroll them?

You must obtain legal custody or guardianship and proof must be provided at enrollment. Notarized statements from the parent are not sufficent under Ohio law. Legal custody or guardianship must be established through the court. Contact Stark County Family Court at 330-451-7415 for assistance.

My grandchild is living with me. Can I enroll them?

You will need to obtain a Grandparent Power of Attorney or Caretaker Authorization Affidavit. These must be fully completed, notarized, and filed with Stark County Family Court before enrollment. A copy of the filed forms must be provided at the time of enrollment. For help, please contact Stark County Family Court at 330-451-7415.
