FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the “radius” for transportation to be provided by NCCS?
A: Busing or family transportation is determined the same way as it has been in years past but with new building locations, it is a good time to review. Distance from the student’s residence to school property determines whether transportation is provided by NCCS or not; distance is determined by the “walk” feature using Google Maps if you aren’t sure. NCCS bus transportation is provided using the following criteria:

  • Grade 5 and under with 1 mile or more from residence to school property
  • Grades 6-12 with 1.5 miles or more from the residence to school property

Q: Are there any busing exceptions?
A: Elementary students inside a school’s “radius” but separated from the Intermediate or Primary by Main Street or Applegrove Street WILL be offered NCCS busing.

Q: How much longer will bus rides be this year?
A: Times and routes should be very close to what you experienced last year. Travel times are only expected to change 2-3 minutes, if at all. Those on the far North side of the district may see an additional 10 minutes for grades 3-5.

Q: Will buses ever be canceled?
A: We do everything we can to never leave a family without the transportation they rely on. The hiring of additional drivers this summer as well as the added staggering of building times will eliminate the cancellation of Primary and Intermediate routes, and make it very unlikely for cancellations for NCMS and Hoover.

Q: When can students be dropped off each morning?
A: Buildings will open to students at the following times each morning:

Primary – 8:55am
Intermediate – 8:10am
Middle School – 7:05am
Hoover – 7:05am

Q: When will we know bus stop times?
A: Routes are expected to be sent to families the week of August 21.

Q: Who supervises children at the bus stops?
A: Parents are responsible for the safety of their child(ren) while they are at the bus stop and for meeting the bus on time.

Q: How long will my child have to wait at the bus stop?
A: Parents are asked to have their child(ren) at the bus stop five (5) minutes prior to the scheduled arrival of the bus.

Q: What happens if I need to request a change because of my work schedule?
A: Please call (330-497-5615) or email the Dept. of Transportation (transportation@northcantonschools.org) at least 24 hours in advance of any schedule changes.

Q: Can my child ride home with a friend after school?
A: We ask that parents not request special busing to accommodate overnight visits, after school activities, socializing or other matters of convenience.

Q: Is it true that the bus driver will not let my child off the bus if I am not waiting at the stop?
A: For the safety of the children, parents of K-2 students are asked to be at the bus stop or at least visible to the bus driver when the bus arrives or drops off their child. Drivers will keep the child(ren) on the bus with them until they are able to contact a parent/guardian. If the driver finishes their route and the parents/guardians have not been reached, the child(ren) will be returned to the school.
